Lotus Children's Center, Accra, Ghana
Our teaching approach is a healthy psychological methodology which attempts to educate through play, songs, arts, and whatever available multi-sensory approach we can apply. Constant supervision and regular training of teachers are our strengths. This children’s center is active since 1992 in a slum at Ablekuma. The first project to start there was the Lotus children’s home, which was created to ensure basic rights and provide all-around care for parentless girls and girls who had been abandoned or came from needy families from various regions of Ghana. In the same year, in order to provide low-cost high-quality education for the local children whose families were unable to fund their education, we started the non-profit Lotus preschool.

Path Of Joy Children's Center, Kasoa, Central Region of Ghana
Our goal is to fully develop the physical and mental potentialities of the child by applying creative and dynamic learning activities, along with yoga practices that help them to deal with their emotions. Through stories, play and different forms of art we inspire them to embrace morals as the basis of their intellectual growth. One does not teach morals through fear, but through the deep comprehension of the importance and beauty of promoting one’s and other’s well-being. This new centre came into being thanks to the efforts of Mrs. Mohamukta Ananda and Mr. Rutger Tamminga who both are most concerned with education in Africa. Their understanding is that only when people get proper education can they break the cycle of poverty and misery. The centre is located in a very poor area in a community lacking basics of sanitation and others.
Library: Daily we receive about 40 children during the school vacations and 7-15 children (varying from 3 to 16 years old) during the period they go to school. They come after school for English grammar classes with our volunteers, participate in the reading club with the local librarian, and other activities. The children are extremely happy and arrive for the classes by themselves. These kids are learning and freely enjoying many creative activities which unfortunately are lacking in the local schools – such as local music with dance, modeling, painting, colouring, practical lessons of healthy habits, etc. We are seeking volunteers for this project.
